What are rounds? ((in surgical vocabulary?))?

I watch Grey's Anatomy, and I be wondering what exactly are rounds, and the significance of them. Also, I would like to know why they are done day by day. Thanks! What are rounds? ((in surgical vocabulary?))?
Rounds are basically the physician checking up on adjectives of his/her patients in the hospital. Most docs I know (as very well as my residents) do their hospital rounds prior to starting surgical cases or taking office hours. They are done each day to monitor the condition of the patient - and it's roughly a requirement these days that the long-suffering must be seen each day by his/her physician while he/she is in the hospital and that this 'visit' must be documented contained by the patient's record.
Going a round and checking on your patients.
